DANCE NETWORK SD CONFERENCE MOVES WEST

Dance Network of South Dakota held their 2006 conference in Rapid City October 27th, 28th & 29th. Approximately 100, Dancers and teachers attended from around South Dakota. Hostess for the event was Robyn Wynia of Hot Springs.

Classes were taught by excellent teachers from Minnesota, Kentucky, New York and Kansas. Students enjoyed learning the Flamenco taught by Deborah Elias and Denise Gillman's fine Cecchetti ballet classes and variations from Nutcracker. Ms. Gillman finished her training at the National Ballet of Canada.

Director/Choreographer Carlos Jones brought a very logical approach to tap dancing and some fun combinations from "Steppin Out." Marc Holland with his Broadway background challenged students with his jazz classes. Modern classes were taught by Krista Tucker, trained in New York and Ohio.

Dance Teachers held their annual meeting at the conference with some exciting results, one of which was a web site for DNSD. We can be found at www.dancenetworksd.com thanks to Jackie Pederson-Kriens. Thanks, Jackie!

Another exciting outcome of the meeting was the decision to hold the 2007 Dance Network Conference in Pierre, SD, right in the middle of the state.

This will be the first time since 1989 that the conference will be held in Pierre. It will be held at the Ramkota River Center October 5th, 6th & 7th, 2007. A block of rooms will be reserved and more information can be found on our web site as teachers sign contracts. Hostess for the event in 2007 will be Sarah Sonnenschein.
